It's a considerably soft, What was your focusing point? Manual Focus or Auto Focus?

It was auto focus. I used my point and shoot. I now have a new dslr camera and am slowly learning all the new functions. Unfortunately I have had very little time to go shoot.

Ah. That explains a lot.

I think you got closer than the minimum focusing distance, but my P&S has a tendancy to have difficulty with AF and stops searching even within the focusing range and gussses at times resulting in much the same thing.

Either way, with close up work and macro work you should use manual focus for best results. You will likely see the difference with your new SLR now that you will have the option of manual focus.
