The Canon FD mount was introduced in 1971 with the Canon F-1. Unlike most all other lens mounts the lenses are Female and the bodies male and is available in both breech lock and bayonet. Both FD female coupling styles mount to the same male mount surfaces. Additionally, the flange focal distance of the FD mount is smaller than most other lens mounts, so adapters to other body mount surfaces are rare and often limited in useability and quality. |
